XB releases CivilB 2011 beta tools for Civil 3D 25 januari 2011

XB Engineering Systems Inc. (XB) is delighted to announce the release of CivilB 2011 (beta), which implements innovative and patented civil engineering objects (CEO) modeling technology, as add-on applications to Civil 3D / Map 3D / AutoCAD (2010 and 2011 versions), and as expansion of BIM for civil engineering.

“The CivilB provide tow essential civil engineering design functions that are absent in current civil engineering CAD software solutions, 1) project integration / design collaboration, to verify object engineering clearances and avoid design interferences / utility conflicts, 2) modeling non-linear / irregular surfaces, to automate roadway widening / reconstruction, pavement overlay, parking lots, subdivisions and grading surfaces design.” said Bo Gao, PE, XB’s civil engineering adviser, “These functions have particular significances for infrastructure reconstruction projects in order to integrate existing infrastructures and proposed improvements.”

The CivilB uses polygon objects to provide a uniform, versatile and simple civil engineering surface modeling approach.  The 3DEdge objects form closed 3D polygons and represent roadway centerline / control-line and pavement / shoulder / curb / sidewalk edges, grade break lines and grading surface edges, and slope catch lines.  The PRS (parametric ruled surface) objects and TIN (triangulated irregular networks) objects define surface elevations within the polygons and represent existing and proposed terrain, pavement, curb, gutter, sidewalk and grading surfaces.

Use polygon object to model roadway with super-elevation

The 3DEdge object is represented by its horizontal alignment and profile controllers that define the 3DEdge profile.  The VPI (vertical point of intersection) profile controllers commonly define the roadway control-line profiles, and CSV (cross slope and vertical fluctuation) profile controllers define roadway cross slopes and grades drop at vertical curb.  Engineers can adjust profile elevations and cross slopes / super-elevations though these profile controllers and design 3D roadway / grading surfaces on 2 D plane view.

The CivilB provide functions to convert AutoCAD blocks to the spot objects, with various categories, such as Pole, Sign, Tree, Column, Fixture, Point, Junction, and Apparatus etc.  The CivilB also provide functions to convert AutoCAD polylines to the linear objects with various categories, such as Wall, Railing, Barrier, Pipe, Ditch, Barrier, and Beam etc.  The survey points data with proper formats can be converted to the polygon objects to represent existing pavement, curb, curb ramp, slope etc.  These functions allow surveyors, architects, and engineers of different disciplines to define existing and proposed engineering components and systems as CEO design objects, in order to support design integration, coordination and production, and avoid design interfaces and utility conflicts.
